THE GALLERY AT SWEETGRASS

“The Gallery at Sweetgrass is nestled into the Sweetgrass Plaza in Wild Dunes Resort, Isle of Palms. The Gallery showcases regionally and nationally recognized artists that have created pieces celebrating the beauty, color and tranquility of our coastal locale.”

I have the immense privilege of being the Resident Artist at The Gallery at Sweetgrass where I use the gallery’s beautiful front window studio space to paint in-person three days a week. It has been the absolute joy of a lifetime not only to have a designated workspace where I can create and sell my work, but also to have fostered the relationships I’ve established within the resort that have been so special to me. From annual vacationers to daily members and regular faces across the Wild Dunes community and team, I have loved making connections with each person I meet.

I am learning to view The Gallery through the eyes of a browsing consumer, an established local, a businessperson, a tourist, a child, or an art enthusiast. Each person enjoys something unique about the gallery- whether it’s within my work or another artist’s- that makes me feel like a part of the greater art community, the person’s Wild Dunes experience, or maybe even a part of their home or life, should they decide to purchase a piece of my work. It is truly a humbling and special experience to have someone love and invest in something I’ve worked so hard for, and I am so thankful not just for the people who spend time viewing and appreciating my work, but also for the team at The Gallery at Sweetgrass who works so hard to represent me and the other artists. I am so grateful to share their workspace and see the living, breathing walls of a gallery in action, and I will cherish this experience as their resident artist as a career and lifetime high.

To kick off my second year of residency, the Gallery and various teams at Wild Dunes collaborated to host an Oyster Roast on a foggy January evening in 2024. We enjoyed custom cocktails, delicious oysters, live music, plaza games, and a wonderfully large crowd of friends and family.

"Nothing makes me happier than introducing my favorite people to my favorite people: my mom to my frequent buyers; my college roommates to the gallery team; my aunts and uncles to my neighbors; my husband to the local members and big-time artists; my sis and childhood best friend to my favorite bartenders. You get the picture. This is my happiest place with my happiest people."
